About Ivelisse Brignoni and her work:
Ivelisse Brignoni is a visual artist, illustrator and muralist born in San Juan, Puerto Rico 1969. After living and studying in Montreal, Canada, as a participant of an Arts Exchange program, she finished her studies in Visual Arts with a concentration in Painting at the University of Puerto Rico. She is a versatile artist who likes to explore different styles within her work for more than 20 years of career.
Her distinctive medium is acrylic, although she also likes to work with oil, clay, paper, and fabrics, among others. Nature, surroundings, the environment and spirituality are the starting point when creating her work. Using the creative process to disconnect and reconnect with her interior, shaping geometric figures, lines, symbols and colors that harmonize her space.
Her topics are environmental and varied which reflect many of her own lived experiences. She works with different contemporary media such as expressionism, surrealism and conceptual art. Her work expresses a lot of emotion (peace, tranquility, joy) and deep feeling of those who see it. Each piece carries its own story and despite the different styles such as her paintings and three-dimensional murals, she continues to explore because she thinks that each one is part of her growth and evolution where change is constant. Through her work she creates a habitat that allows her to nurture her inner self. A "Sacred" space to meditate and reflect on the chaos and the world situation. Using pictorial elements that make clear reference to her Puerto Rican roots, seen from the diaspora. Some of these recurring elements in her works are the palm tree, water, nature and gold. Some of her works have been exhibited in Puerto Rico, London, New York, Miami, Dominican Republic and Canada.
