Rosignol is the end of the line on the East Coast of Demerara in Guyana, for the very first trains in all of South America. They were established in 1848 and ran to ruin by a government with neither foresight nor hindsight by 1971, when they, injudiciously, were scrapped. The two women represent the main ethnicities of working people whose very livelihood depended on it, and were cast into a yet greater difficult life situation by their removal from service.
Artist Bio:
Errol Brewster is a Caribbean artist from Guyana, living in the United States. With more than four decades of a region-wide, multimedia imaging practice, he has participated in multiple exhibitions, regional and international:- in various editions of CARIFESTA’s; the EU’s Centro Cultural Cariforo, travelling exhibition, 2000; the First International Triennial of Caribbean Art, 2010; and the Inter-American Development Bank’s “Sidewalks of the Americas” Installation, 2018.
